Oxford tours for schools and international student groups
Bring Oxford’s history, university traditions and remarkable stories to life with a walking tour designed around your students.
I have extensive experience working as both a teacher and tour guide with international students attending school trips and summer-school programmes in Oxford. This combination helps me communicate clearly, maintain students’ interest and adapt a tour to different ages, levels of English and educational backgrounds.
Tours shaped around your group
These are not fixed curriculum tours. Instead, I work from your brief and prepare a tour suited to your programme, interests and available time.
Possible themes include:
• An introduction to Oxford and its university
• Oxford’s most important buildings and landmarks
• Student life, traditions and university customs
• British history through the story of Oxford
• Literature, religion, politics or architecture
• Famous individuals connected with the city
• The Ashmolean Museum or a college visit, subject to availability
If your group has a particular theme or area of interest, please mention it when enquiring. I am happy to undertake the necessary preparation and shape the tour accordingly.
Suitable for students from approximately age eight
The language, pace and level of detail can be adjusted to suit the students’ ages, confidence in English and existing knowledge.
My aim is to make Oxford informative and memorable without overwhelming students with names and dates. Questions and discussion are encouraged, and the route can include regular pauses where helpful.
Group sizes and arrangements
I can guide groups of up to 25 students at one time.
Larger parties may be divided into smaller groups and guided in separately timed sessions, depending on your timetable. I do not currently provide additional simultaneous guides.
The suggested meeting point is Carfax in central Oxford, although another convenient city-centre meeting point can be arranged.
Safeguarding and group care
I am DBS checked and have completed safeguarding training. My experience working directly with international students also gives me an understanding of the practical demands of school trips and summer-school programmes.
Teachers, group leaders or other responsible adults should accompany students throughout the tour. Details of safeguarding arrangements can be discussed when planning the visit.
Plan a student group tour
Tell me about your organisation, proposed date, number and age of students, available time and any subjects you would particularly like the tour to explore. I will suggest a suitable route and provide a tailored quotation.
